The Pa Orchard sits in two titles in a renowned horticulture location on the boundary of Tauranga City, long regarded as a great growing area with plenty of orchards enjoying good production year on year. With naturally fertile and free draining volcanic soils, good sunshine hours, regular rainfall and excellent shelter, the crop is about to set on the 8.35 can/ha production orchard. The 2021 yield of 59,468 trays was lower than the 2020 crop of 66,894 trays. There's now a good full canopy and the orchard is well set up for an excellent crop in the coming season.
Orchard maintenance and management is easy within the 12 production blocks. The Chieftain males occupy a mix of Agbeam and timber pergola structures with varied row spacings, there's partial frost protection and excellent water supply via a shared scheme from the TauTau River plus a bore feeding to 4x 25,000 litre storage tanks. A shed provides for orchard equipment and storage.
